Maternity Sessions ( non milk bath)
Being pregnant is a beautiful thing! Capturing those moments before your little one arrives is absolutely necessary. You will cherish your maternity photos your entire life, and your child will grow up seeing your absolute love for him or her before you even met them.
I really enjoy long flowy dresses and skirts, however that may not be your thing. With your body’s shape changing to accommodate your growing little one, you probably aren’t sure what looks best in front of a camera. Believe it or not, some patterns can make you appear much larger than you are while others compliment and flatter your beautiful baby bump.
Over here on the left are some great examples !
Some of the very best maternity dresses or maxi skirts are white/transparent or pastel pink, but it is possible to find a pattern that works well. Most importantly, you want to choose clothing that you feel both comfortable and beautiful in!
Now, let’s talk maternity photo fashion details:
Try a maxi dress. Floor or knee length maxi dresses with chunky necklaces are incredibly flattering on a pregnant body. They focus on your beautiful baby bump while smoothing out and assisting areas you may deem troublesome. Try to find a maxi dress that has texture to it.
Solids are best. You may be able to find a pattern that flatters your body in front of the camera, but cameras can often bodies in patterns. I recommend sticking with solids.
Avoid being too matchy-matchy with your partner. Matching and coordinating your outfits is great, especially for a photography session. However, if you are both wearing white or blue, it will be distracting. I recommend visiting Design Seeds and searching the palettes using your color as the base color to find complimentary colors for you and your partner.
Belt it. Find a cute and simple skinny belt to accentuate that baby bump. This will define your waistline and enhance any shirt or dress, flowy or fitted.
Choose two outfits. Check with your photographer, but you should prepare at least two outfits! You will be so thankful when you have maternity photos in varying outfits, especially if it turns out you don’t feel one of the outfits was as flattering as you believed it to be.
Fitted versus flowy. Wearing a tight, fitted maternity dress that shows off all your beautiful curves looks absolutely stunning. Many women feel uncomfortable doing so, but if you choose a fitted dress you should know that you are more beautiful than you could possibly imagine! Flowy dresses are more popular because they feel a little less revealing. Both make stunning photos! Maybe bring one of each.
Don’t be embarrassed to ask your photographer for tips on what to wear for your maternity shoot. We are ready to help and absolutely love doing so! Now go shopping and get ready to wear your best for those beautiful maternity photos!

Milk Bath Maternity & Mommy and Me Sessions What to Wear Examples
You can choose a beautiful lace gown ( amazon 18.00), classic lingerie, a fun vintage-inspired bathing suit, your favorite dress. Something that will show off that beautiful baby bump ! If this is a mommy and me session we suggest a favorite dress, lace dress or lacy swimwear. The options are limitless. For babies we suggest a swim diaper with a diaper cover, to cover the swim diaper. Cotton or any material works great for coverage. We will also shoot some images with babies in their birthday suits.
Underwear under a gown is optional, but if wearing it is your preference, bring nude or white colored bra and underwear. Nude works best.
For Maternity, The shots look best if the fabric is wet as it sticks to the skin and better shows of their baby bump, so for that reason thin fabrics work best. We can also go bare belly or belly showing with a split dress and as always we will retouch any stretch marks or concerns that you may have in post editing.
Fabrics such as fine tulle, chiffon work well too for either session, already as a dress or just fabric alone from the fabric store.
Etsy has some gorgeous milk bath dresses. Simply go to Etsy and type in Milk bath dress in your search !
What do I bring with me?
I have everything here for you including towels and a shower available for after the session. You’ll need to bring a dry change of clothes, for both of you, if this is a mommy and me to go home in, and of course your outfits and accessories for the session. That’s it! We will photograph you in and out of the tub so you have a gallery that is unique and full of variety.
How deep is the water? Do I need to be a good swimmer?
It’s not deep at all, less than a foot. You don’t need to know how to swim. You only need to know how to lay in a bathtub. Infants will always be supported by you during the session

Newborn and Newborn Family Sessions
You’ve carried your baby for nine months, you’ve endured the pains of childbirth (totally worth it, but undeniably trying) you’ve brought this sweet bundle of love home from the hospital, had a few sleepless nights, and now it’s time for your baby’s newborn session.
You look in your closet and you think what on earth am I going to wear for this? Nothing fits! Nothing looks good! HELP!
Mommas… I get it. I’ve been there three times, I know that the first weeks after baby’s birth is not really the best time for fashion. But I promise you, it’s not as painful as it sounds.
#1: You can wear sweatpants to your baby’s newborn session Yup. I don’t care what you wear on the bottom half of your body. I promise I won’t let it show if it’s not what you want in your pictures! The images I usually take are centered around your head/torso and focused on baby.
(Now… there are exceptions to this, but I’ll get to that later.)
Mom and Dad should try to match.
I don’t normally suggest matching in pictures, but newborn sessions are the exception. If mom goes with light colors, dad should go with light colors also. If dad wants to wear dark gray (or black) it would be best to have mom in the same dark tones. This helps keep unity throughout the family pictures, and keeps focus on the new love for the precious baby you are holding in your arms.
Think skin-to-skin.
Babies and skin-to-skin contact go hand and hand… wearing a tank top, tube top, or belly band (pulled up over breasts) is a great way to make the what-to-wear issue a nonissue. Minimizing the clothing that shows in pictures ensures that baby is the focus! Dads can even remove their shirts if they are comfortable with the idea.
* Bonus tip: Moms, if you decide to go this route, a strapless bra is helpful. If you don’t have a strapless bra that fits (and I don’t recommend strapless nursing bras during the first weeks) then we can simply pull the straps of your regular bra down over your shoulders. Once again, we won’t be taking full body shots, and baby’s body usually covers breasts, however shoulders often do show in pictures.
What should siblings wear?
For the most part, the idea is the same. Neutrals are best, match mom and dad, and for the little boys, shirts off can be super cute. For young girls, I will often take one of my newborn wraps and tie or pin around her torso to look like a tube top. This way she and baby can match.
When a sibling is holding baby, the baby will often stay wrapped, especially if the sibling is in the 2-4 year range (toddlers are wiggly!) My wraps are all different colors, so don’t worry about trying to match what I have… chances are I’ll have a wrap to match whatever big brother or sister is wearing.
What about baby? Should I bring special clothes for him?
Most images are taken in nothing but baby’s birthday suit (or a wrap.) I do provide everything you need for baby’s pictures, but if you want him to wear something special for a few pictures, please bring it along. I’ve had clients bring along sweet vintage rompers that once belonged to Daddy or special little dresses that mean something to the family. Keep in mind that the clothing will look best if it fills well. And by fit well, I mean a bit snug. True newborn sizes or even preemie sizes are best.
